What started as a working tobacco farm in 1867 has transformed over generations into a place centered around hospitality, celebration, and meaningful connection. Long before luxury travel found its way to Lancaster County, the families who lived on this land were already welcoming guests here. Among them was the Bard family, who opened their doors to overnight visitors decades before the idea of a “boutique hotel” ever existed.

From Historic Farm to Boutique Hotel

When owner Deb Shirk first envisioned the Inn, the goal was relatively modest: create an upscale 19-room retreat that reflected the beauty and quiet charm of Lancaster County. But as renovations began and the history of the property unfolded, so did the opportunity to preserve something much bigger.

Rather than replacing the original structures, the vision became centered around restoration and intentional growth. Historic buildings were carefully preserved and repurposed, allowing the property’s past to remain part of the guest experience. Some of those original structures still stand today—including historic barns and farm buildings held together with traditional corncob shims, a small but meaningful reminder of the craftsmanship and ingenuity of another era.

That commitment to preservation ultimately earned the Inn recognition as a member of Historic Hotels of America, honoring both the property’s architectural history and its continued role in American hospitality.

Built With Purpose

The growth of The Inn at Leola Village was never rushed. Instead, it evolved thoughtfully over time through a philosophy Deb Shirk still believes in today: listen first, then build with purpose.

Before launching The Inn, Deb spent 15 years as general manager of Eden Resort & Suites, bringing decades of hospitality experience into the project. That foundation shaped what Leola Village would become—not simply a beautiful property, but a destination known for consistency, service, and genuine hospitality.

Over the years, the Inn expanded carefully and intentionally:

• Weddings were introduced in 2005
• The on-site salon and spa followed in 2007–2008
• Historic accommodations expanded into restored homes, cottages, and converted farm structures
• Dining experiences and gathering spaces were added while preserving the property’s historic character

Today, guests can stay in everything from Tuscan-inspired suites to restored cottages and historic barn accommodations, all while surrounded by landscaped gardens and the quiet countryside of Lancaster County.

A Reputation Built Over Time

As The Inn at Leola Village celebrates 25 years as a hotel and 20 years as a wedding venue, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: the people behind it.

Nearly every member of the core wedding and events team has been part of the property for more than a decade. That longevity creates an experience guests immediately feel—one that is seamless, personal, and deeply rooted in care and professionalism.

In many ways, that consistency is what truly defines the Inn. While the property has earned prestigious distinctions including AAA Four-Diamond recognition and Forbes-rated spa experiences, its reputation has been built more quietly: through repeat guests, trusted recommendations, and years of showing up for people during some of life’s most important moments.
